Brome Lake Books
Blog Post: It was time to refresh our front window and with the wintry weather and all that’s going on with the world I was feeling that a little crafting was in order. I started by putting up four of the little paintings done by my cousin Kara Needham that we sell in the store. But I then remembered that her father Neil Needham enjoys painting. He recently gave me this landscape of the view from my Grandfathers farm in 1920 on North road in Austin. Then I just had to include the quilt I have from Neil’s late mother, my Aunt Betty Needham nee McAuley. Three generations of artists. I had just enough space to include the magnificent crochet throw made by Betty Stevens, the lovely mother of my best friend Emma Stevens! This wedding gift to Lucy and myself also won first prize at the Big Brome fair in 1995. Oh and I didn’t forget that we are a bookstore and included some wonderful books on painting, quilting and crocheting. We have some lovely knitting bowls from Robin Badger Pottery perfect for The Power of Knitting. Capturing Motion is photography inspiration for our son Ben Mcauley who is now selling his very own greeting cards in the store. I also had to toss in a Bridgerton and All Creatures Great and Small book just because.

We hope everyone is staying home and limiting contact. All of us at Brome Lake Books are concerned that our community stays safe. To help, we we are here to take orders over the phone (450-242-2242), by email ([email protected]), on our web page (bromelakebooks.ca) or through social media. We can create a suggestion basket for you to choose from and we even have some ideas to keep the young ones busy. We will deliver for free in the Lac Brome area or we can ship through the mail to places farther away for a fee. All books will be wiped down and handled with sanitation protocols. We can take credit card numbers and put through the payment remotely and leave deliveries on the porch to avoid contact. We will also be regularly posting ideas for great escape reading like this new Hilary Mantel. Jump into the world of Henry VIII where ambition and intrigue leads to danger and suspicion.

If you’re ever in beautiful Quebec City make sure you visit the boutique Lambert & CO. right inside the historic Château Frontenac where I feel so lucky to be selling my soap! Did you know that it is free to visit the Château and look around most of the main floor, its two boutiques, art gallery and restaurant? There is also a mini museum and Starbucks in the basement that you can visit not to mention all the grounds that are open to the public!
